Medic North First Aid Training and Supply started as a sole proprietorship in 1995, owned and operated by Mr. Sean Ivens. In 1998, the company became incorporated and was renamed Medic North Emergency Services Ltd.
We currently employee over 20 indeterminate health care professionals in the field, eight full time office personnel, one Chief Medical Director and two Medical Directors. During Medic North’s seasonal peak, we employ many more casual health care professionals. Medic North operates two full-time medical clinics with emergency vehicles at remote mine sites located in the Northwest Territories. In addition, we have several other temporary clinics, with and without emergency vehicles, throughout the Northwest Territories and Canada, on a seasonal basis.

A lifetime resident of the North, Sean grew up in several communities across the Northwest Territories including Inuvik, Yellowknife, Fort Simpson and Hay River. After graduating from high school in Hay River and post-secondary education in Alberta, he and his family have been residents of Yellowknife since 1995.
Sean started his career as a Red Seal Chef working at a restaurant in Hay River and operating his own catering business. During this time, he was a volunteer with the Hay River Fire Department and Ambulance Service. It was this experience that motivated Sean to redirect his career and commit his professional life to Emergency Services. He went south again to acquire Emergency Medical Technician training and return to Yellowknife to make a difference in the delivery of emergency medical services in the North. Since 1995, Sean has committed his career to this cause.
Sean started Medic North with a vision; to provide exceptional medical services to industry across the north supplemented with quality first aid training. This niche market presented opportunity and was quickly established by Medic North. Within only five years, the company grew rapidly and had a staff compliment of over 20 employees. The company expanded its market to include mining & exploration companies, oil & gas companies, community ambulance services, first aid training, drug testing and wholesale medical supplies.
Over the years, he has become involved in numerous other business ventures; Med.Ex Inc. specializes in capital equipment, consumable medical supplies and pharmaceutical supply to hospitals, health centres and industry, Utsingi Developments is a property development business with a self storage component, and The Redwood Inn & Suites is a 92-room hotel in Grande Prairie.
